Friendship Cities

Two of the world’s most beloved coastal cities have joined forces in an exciting new partnership. Laid-back Santa Monica in Southern California and bohemian Brighton in East Sussex officially became Friendship Cities on 24th May, sealing the deal virtually, with an in-person signing ceremony which took place in Brighton on 29th July 2022. Did someone say ‘summer of love’?

Celebrating the Friendship

To celebrate the exciting union of these two sensational cities – whose similarities include iconic piers, world-class cuisine, a relaxed, inclusive lifestyle and natural highs galore – Santa Monica hosted a series of events which added even more buzz to Brighton throughout July, August and September 2022.

Shelter Hall festivities

Much of the activity will be based at beloved local food hub Shelter Hall, the city’s chic seaside food court that serves up a global array of flavours. Come summer and autumn, the emphasis will be firmly Californian, in our Santa Monica inspired kitchen, Sol by Santa Monica.
